Digitalization of agri-food supply chains

Food waste represents a significant loss of valuable resources in terms of raw materials, water and soil and negatively impacts the environmental, economic and social sustainability of current agri-food systems.

Our research group took part in the FISR project Dono ergo sum, financed by the FISR fund (Fondo Integativo Speciale per la Ricerca), aimed at digitalizing the agri-food supply chains to encourage the reduction of food waste. In collaboration with the University of Roma Tre and the University of Tuscia, the group investigated the sustainable business model of the Regusto digital platform, based on blockchain technology, which enables the redistribution of food surpluses generated by industrial players in favour of the largest Italian humanitarian associations.

The results were presented at the R&D Management Conference 2022, organised by the University of Trento.
